Let’s Forward A Good Planet To Our ‘Grandchild’

We strive to run a great business. At The Yard, we don't just run a business - we believe we can be great. But what does "great" mean to us? It means focusing on people and the planet, not just profits. It means nurturing the ambitions and character of our staff and taking care of the beautiful planet we live on.

At The Yard, we don't just run a business - we believe we can be great. But what does "great" mean to us? It means focusing on people and the planet, not just profits. It means nurturing the ambitions and character of our staff and taking care of the beautiful planet we live on.

The Yard in Thai…

The very name "The Yard" (which means family in Thai) reflects our belief that we are all connected and responsible for caring for each other and the planet we call home.

We know that we're only temporary residents on this planet, and our grandchildren will inherit it. That's why we take our responsibility as a hospitality business seriously, try to reduce our impact as much as possible, and Forward a good planet to our grandchildren!

No Single Use Plastic

Our Plastic Bottle Saved From Landfill Board

For example, we don't sell or offer single-use plastic water bottles to guests. Instead, we provide a filtered water source to encourage guests to refill their bottles. We even provide a plastic bottle-saved tracking board to mark each time they refill, so they can see their impact on reducing plastic waste.

No Fabric Wasted

We also use surplus fabric to make our bed sheets, pillowcases, duvets, and curtains, which not only reduces waste but also supports local labor and unique fabric makers. No, that doesn’t mean we’re re-using old fabric, ha! It means when the factories make too much fabric and they cannot sell, instead of throwing it away, we purchase high-quality fabrics and linens from trusted partners to ensure we do our part to create a less wasteful world.

Delicious coffee, Great Cause

Our coffee beans come from sustainable local farmers in northern Thailand, and we work with a local-favorite neighborhood cafe to roast them. Mhmm - Sip unlimited fresh coffee at the Yard, knowing you’re cup supports a great cause.

Fresh Breakfast, Happy Planet

Breakfast at the Yard Hostel Bangkok

For breakfast, we serve seasonal fruits, homemade bread, jams, and yogurt aiming to reduce food waste by serving guests as a set, but they can have more until they're full, with no waste. We even compost any leftover food and turn it into plant food!

From Waste To Plant Food

For breakfast, we aim to reduce food waste by serving guests until they're full, with a goal of little to no waste. With the waste that is generated, we compost any leftover food and turn it into plant food to feed our on-site garden, which provides fresh air & natural shade to guests on sunny days.

Smarter Consumption, Less Carbon

We also strive to reduce our power consumption by insulating our rooms and using air conditioning units with specially designed energy-efficient inverters, which use less energy than normal units.

Book Direct, Save the for Forest

As part of our Rest for Forest project, we donate 7% of the direct website booking totals to support local people affected by air pollution and forest fires in the north. By working together, we can make a positive impact on the planet and leave a better world for our grandchildren. The funds provide supplies and support to the Karen Tribe in North Thailand. They work to prevent fires by clearing dead trees using traditional methods and preparing rainwater tanks.
Any leftover of funds is used to raise awareness about the causes of forest fires.

Since 2018, we have donated over 27,000 THB to RFF (Rest For Forest Project)
