Let's Transform Workplace Culture

At The Yard, the traditional work schedule just doesn't cut it. That's why we've created a more innovative schedule that allows our team to live a more balanced and fulfilling life. Gone are the days of working for big companies with only 2 days off every 5 days.

Revolutionizing the Work Schedule: The Yard's 4 On 4 Off Team Schedule

At The Yard, the traditional work schedule just doesn't cut it. That's why we've created a more innovative schedule that allows our team to live a more balanced and fulfilling life. Gone are the days of working for big companies with only 2 days off every 5 days.

Our 4 Days On 4 Days Off schedule, which we've been using since 2016, has been a massive hit with our team members. Not only do they get the rest they need to avoid burnout and fatigue, but they also have the freedom to travel, pursue other passions, or even take on a second job for more income and experience. This schedule also allows our team members to spend quality time with their family and loved ones, leading to a happier and more fulfilling life.

When our team members come back to work after their time off, they bring with them a renewed sense of energy and positivity. This positive energy is palpable throughout The Yard, making for a more enjoyable experience for our guests. Our team members even have the option to stay in our Yard staff quarters during their working days. This not only saves them time and money on transportation to and from home but also reduces our carbon footprint on the earth!

At The Yard, this schedule is a win-win for everyone - our team members, guests, and the planet. We're so passionate about it that we want to share it with other hostels and businesses because we believe that if more of us adopt this schedule, we'll have happier people all around.

Investing in Our Team: How The Yard Supports Growth and Development”

As a small hostel business, we know that we can't offer the same kind of career path as larger companies, where employees can move up the ladder to become managers, directors, or even C-level executives. But that doesn't mean we don't care about our team members' growth and development. We're constantly looking for ways to support their personal and professional goals.

For example, we had a team member named Gunn who used to work the night shift at The Yard. We saw potential in him and wanted to give him a chance to start his own business. So, we became partners with him, investing money while he invested his time and effort. After four months, we exited the partnership and let Gunn run his business on his own. We're proud to say that his business, 'Farmer Bar', is now thriving and adored by local cocktail enthusiasts and visiting Yard guests.

We also encourage all our team members to make a simple life plan and ask them, "How can we support you?" Some of them have dreams of becoming cabin crew or studying abroad, and we're happy to provide them with the language and service experience they need to get there. We even find volunteers to teach them English, so they can better achieve their goals. And when they're ready to take the next step in their journey, we're happy to let them go, knowing that we've played a part in helping them achieve their dreams.

At The Yard, we believe that supporting our team members in their growth and development is not only the right thing to do, but it also benefits our business and our guests. When our team members feel valued and supported, they're more likely to provide exceptional service and create a welcoming atmosphere for our guests.
